Hurricane Bill

North Atlantic Ocean, July 11–13, 1997

A deepwater tropical cyclone for its entire existence, Hurricane Bill churned across the mid- North Atlantic Ocean between July 11 and 13, 1997. Originating to the southeast of Bermuda as a tropical depression, the system tracked to the northeast, intensifying into a tropical storm during the early morning hours of July 11, and a Category 1 hurricane on July 12. At its peak, Hurricane Bill generated a central barometric pressure reading of 29.14 inches (987 mb) and sustained winds of 75 MPH (121 km/h). Nearing 45 degrees North and its chilling waters on July 13, Bill faded into a tropical storm, and within a day had dissipated.
